This smells very much like a scam but I believe there are website designers that copy people’s websites and then try to sell them back to the website owner, The following conversation demonstrates this:
[Website Designers] Hi can you help me I am just wondering why your main website looks so different to your other website.
[Website Owner] We did them at separate times I guess, I am about to change the other webiste as we need something which is not static, this was the problem with the old main website before we had it redesigned.
[Website Designers] I build websites and was asked to do a similar one to your website. Not sure what you mean by static? If you are talking about responsive your main website is responsive your other website isn’t which means you could be losing business from mobile phone users. However, Since my client has decided not to go ahead after doing most of the work. If you are interested, I can offer you the site at a giveaway price or give me an offer. Its built around Joomla infrastructure with a responsive bootstrap template and the site can be edited by yourself
[Website Owner] Interesting, you are right they did ask you to design a site similar to mine didn’t they ! Can you tell me, what is the URL and how much are you looking for for this site?
[Website Designers] The site is on my own server. The site name is just an example. Although I have bought the domain and have just uploaded the same site today to this domain. I bought the domain name as I was going to finish the site and offer it to other companies. I can offer the domain name in with the price if you wish. I can easily finish the site to your spec and install the site to your own server with your own domain name or if you wish give you a price on hosting. Your website has had a lot of work done to it and is well presented in my opinion and is well structured for SEO. I would have imagined this would have cost you over £3000 to be built and if they are keeping your SEO up to date is still costing you. I haven’t had time to look into your second site to comment. However, as this site is nearly complete and as I work alone from home as long as there is not too much data transfer I’m willing to finish it off to your spec for only £450. Although, I could get it to look like your first site it would never be exactly the same as the two sites are built on two different platforms.
