The 2nd generation of the much coveted iphone was launched last Friday, July 11th. And at Webbuilt4u it was a race too see who would be the first one with one.
Everyone already had an iphone, apart from our tech guy Paul. Who still uses a phone that was brought out in 1983. So off I popped to my local o2 store at the ungodly hour of 7am to join the queue of 3 people. I must point out here, that i have never ever queued up for a gadget in my life. And I probally won’t be doing it again after the utter balls up o2 in maghull, merseyside made of my experience.
True to the hype, the store opened at 8.02am, and then the farce started. o2’s upgrade activation servers went down. And they started manually doing the upgrades. This lasted approximately 5 minutes before the manager and his team of ladies figured that this seemed like a lot of work. (You know, filling things in with a pen, phoning people up with a phone to manually activate it.) So they thought, lets clear this shop as quickly as possible and tell the gullible gimps that they will call them later in the day to receive their phones.
They never called, So I rang up. They claimed.
” The servers are down there is nothing we can do, this is a countrywide problem, No-one is selling iphones today”
Amazing really as everyone else had one already back in the office, all my mates who wanted one, got one. It took them a bit longer to activate them. As they went to a proper o2 shop. Not some corner shop in parading itself as an o2 outlet.
Monday came and went, Tuesday came and went and then finally on Wednesday i was called by them and told i could pick it up.
So I did. And now i have it.
So as I had an iphone already, i was giving my old one to the wife. But after 5 hours of FAFFING about trying to hack the thing and get it working on the three network. I find out the three network is the only one that will not work with the iphone due to the fact it doesn’t have a normal netwrk. Just a 3g one.
And to be honest the 3g version. it ain’t all that anyway. Bit more storage, reception seems worse, especially when 3g is on, the bars drop down
